Der Wienerschnitzel Chili Hot Dog Chili Sauce – Famous Recipe!!!
3/4 lb ground beef
1/4 lb ground pork
6 cups water
1/4 cup corn starch
1/2 cup wondra flour (instant flour)
1 small can tomato paste
1 tsp white vinegar
6 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp dried onion flakes
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp ground cumin (exact)
1. Brown ground beef and ground pork in a large saucepan over medium heat, ensure that the meat is well crumbled. (I utilize a potato masher for this. When you think it is done, mash some more.). When the meat is completely browned cover saucepan and turn heat to low. After ten minutes, remove the ground meat from the heat and drain.
2. While the meat is simmering, in a separate pan, mix the water, Wondra and the cornstarch. Whisk thoroughly as it’s added until it’s dissolved into the water. Wondra flour is a brand of instant flour that dissolves instantly for sauces and gravy’s. It can be found next to all the other flours. I have posted a picture.
3. Add drained meat, all the dry ingredients, vinegar and tomato paste to the water mixture. Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Stir occasionally, it will burn if you walk away. When chili begins to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour. Once again stirring occasionally.
4. A true Wienerschnitzel hot dog was made with a Vienna beef dog. If your store does not sell them I would go with a Hebrew national or a Nathans. Just a thought. If you want a Wienerschnitzel chili cheese dog place a slice of kraft american cheese on the bun first, then dog and then top with chili. This recipe is the closest I have come to the true thing.
